BONAVISTA 1902

At the end of the Anglo-Boer war in 1902, a house was built on the farm "Fairview" The house was called "Bonavista" which, roughly translates to "Fairview" in English.It is not clear why the house was called this by it's original owner Mr. Herbert North, after which the suburb of Northdene was named.It possibly is due to the breathtaking views seen from the house in almost all Compass directions.

During the past 108 years the house has changed hands several times since it's use as a family home by the North's. At one time it served as a convalescent home for soldiers during the second World-War and after that, It was bought by the Roman Catholic Church and used as a convent for several years.

Finally it was sold to the Old Apostolic Church who, have recently sold the property yet again, due to a serious decline in membership and it was bought by a Durban developer Mr. Colen Kisten owner of Africa Rising.

The property is once again for sale. The writer of this blog had occupied the property for 7 years while it was owned by the Apostolic church and was providing a service to the homeless and unemployed living in the area. We are looking for crowdfunding to buy the property allowing us to begin:

* Soup kitchen.
* Emergency accommodation.
* Basic entrepreneurial skills training.
* Cash crop hydroponic farming.

operations again.
